What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal disease is a chronic infection of the gums and bones that hold your teeth in place.

If left untreated, the gums and bones holding your teeth in place can be damaged leading to an unhealthy smile where your gums recede or pull back from your teeth. Periodontal disease can also cause offensive breath and gums that are sore and bleed. As the disease progresses teeth become loose and are lost. Recent studies suggest a link between periodontal disease and other health complications including diabetes and heart disease.
